MISSION STATEMENT
It is the mission of the Canastota Village Historian to collect, preserve and maintain historical data and artifacts relating to the heritage of the Village of Canastota.

According to the Arts and Cultural Affairs Law Section 57.13 of the State of New York, the duties of a municipally appointed Historian is as follows:

- Interpretation of the past
- Research and writing of one's jurisdiction
- Teaching and public presentation
- Historic preservation
- Tourism promotion
